Includes commentaries on the individual paintings, an overview of Sassoferrato's career reappraising his problematic position in Seicento art, and analyses of thirteen works by the artist's predecessors Orazio Gentileschi, Giovanni Francesco Guerrieri, Ercole Ramazzani and Simone De Magistris.
