Supplementing the catalogue of a related 1989 exhibition in Paris (Sillages neerlandais: La vie maritime dans l'art des Pays-Bas; Worldwide 53448), this scholarly publication surveys some 80 drawings, 60 prints and thirteen paintings of maritime subjects from the museum's collection. Featuring many rarely exhibited works, the selection includes drawings by such artists as the Van de Veldes, Avercamp, Van de Cappelle and Van Goyen as well as prints by Hollar, Rembrandt and many lesser-known figures.
