GUSTAVE SERRURIER-BOVY: A L'AUBE DE L'ESTHETIQUE INDUSTRIELLE (Gustave Serrurier-Bovy: At the Dawn of the Industrial Aesthetic). Jacques-Gregoire Watelet. Beaunord, Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles, Paris, 1989. First edition published 1987 by Editions de Maredsous, Denee. 134 pp. with 147 ills. (53 col.). 28 x 23 cm. In French.
Originally published as Serrurier-Bovy: De l'Art Nouveau a l'Art Deco (1987), this volume was reissued in conjunction with an exhibition surveying the work of the highly successful Liege designer and furniture manufacturer (1858-1910) which highlighted his distinctive Art Nouveau designs (reflecting the influence of Viollet-le-Duc, the Darmstadt School and Belgian vernacular forms) and also presented simple rectilinear works embodying the principles of the English Arts and Crafts movement. Includes nine essays, illustrated with numerous photographs of furniture, interiors and decorative objects, which trace Serrurier-Bovy's career and discuss the influence he exerted on other designers through his participation in important international exhibitions.
