OP "DAS MEDIUM DER FOTOGRAFIE IST BERECHTIGT, DENKANSTOSSE ZU GEBEN": SAMMLUNG F.C. GUNDLACH ("The Photographic Medium Is Entitled to Provoke Thought": The F.C. Gundlach Collection). Kunstverein in Hamburg, 1989. 168 pp. (2 foldout) with 80 ills. (45 col.). 28 x 21 cm. In German; five short essays also in English.
Illustrating the premise that photography represents a medium adaptable to diverse artistic aims rather than a self-contained art form, this catalogue presents some 70 works of the 1970s and 80s (chiefly by German photographers) which include overpainted or technically altered images by Sigmar Polke, Astrid Klein and Walter Dahn, collages by Milan Kunc and Albert Oehlen, staged photographs by Peter Fischli and David Weiss, and narrative sequences by Jurgen Klauke. Five essays by critics, artists and collector Gundlach address such topics as the broadening application of photographic techniques in postmodern art and the varied intentions underlying the use of staged images.
