A scholarly presentation of the significant body of work which Turner produced in connection with the estate of Lord Egremont (one of the artist's most important patrons), this catalogue features facsimile reproductions of 135 gouache drawings of Petworth's grounds and interiors probably executed by Turner around 1827 as well as illustrations of 20 of his paintings still in the Egremont Collection. Six essays explore such topics as the history of Petworth, Egremont's first acquisitions of the artist's work, and the specific links between Turner's canvases and the paintings he studied in his patron's collection.
