MATHIAS KESSLER: THE TASTE OF DISCOVERY. Montagehalle, Dornbirn, 2009. Published by Verlag fur moderne Kunst, Nuremberg. 60 pp. with 46 ills. (40 col.). 30 x 22 cm. ISBN 9783941185715 Bilingual in German and English.
Dieter Buchhart provides in his essay "Das Erlebte als Daseinsbebweis im Zeitalter nach der Natur" the following charaterization of the exhibition: "In "The Taste of Discovery," Kessler links his photographic investigations with the extremes, the taste, and literally the smells of Arctic expeditions. Sir Ernest Shackleton's famous advertisement in The Times for his 1901 voyage of discovery forms the starting point: "Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger. Safe returns doubtful. Honor and recognition in cases of success." In two rooms the artist addresses the artificial and the natural, and our quest for a proof of existence between reality and fiction." Well-preserved volume is in original wrappers.
