This lavishly illustrated volume accompanied the first traveling exhibition to focus on Shangri La, the Islamic-style mansion outside Honolulu built in the late 1930s by American art collector and philanthropist Doris Duke (1912-1993), featuring numerous archival and contemporary photographs of the estate's interiors and landscapes along with documentation of many of the Islamic art objects and furnishings housed there; includes exhibited works by Walid Raad, Shahzia Sikander and four other artists of Islamic descent who were invited to create work inspired by their recent experiences as artists-in-residence at Shangri La.
