Examining Giacometti's well-documented interest in Etruscan art and highlighting the influence of this ancient but aesthetically "modern" work on his oeuvre (especially the stick-like figurative sculptures characteristic of Etruscan art), this catalogue accompanied an exhibition that featured nearly 140 Etruscan works, including sculptures, painted ceramic vases, metalwork and several elaborately carved funerary urns, all of which are reproduced in the catalogue alongside iconic works by Giacometti (1901-1966) and accompanied by texts discussing the history of Etruscan art and Giacometti's artistic evolution in the context of his study of Etruscan art.
