Including six critical texts and an essay by the artist, this limited-edition catalogue documents Tianshu (Book from the Sky), a major artist's book project created in the late 1980s by celebrated Chinese artist Xu Bing (b. 1955), the provocative work conceived as a room-size installation composed of scores of woodblock-printed books (their unreadable texts consisting of thousands of imaginary Chinese characters) arrayed on the floor in a grid configuration and overhung by gracefully draped scrolls.
