Thoroughly reviewing the singular oeuvre of Yugoslavian artist, critic and curator Mangelos (Dmitrije Basicevic, 1921-1987), a member of the Fluxus-like avant-garde group Gorgona that was active in Zagreb in the 1950s and 60s, this catalogue features three critical essays, an interview with Mangelos and reproductions of nearly 200 paintings and other works produced by the artist (who divided his life into 9 1/2 "Mangeloses", or periods, based on his "bio-psychological" theories) from the 1940s to the 80s, many of the pieces incorporating symbolic forms or enigmatic handwritten texts on black backgrounds that reflect his nihilistic "anti-art" aesthetic.
