Featuring some 340 French daguerreotypes from the early history of photography, this catalogue is published on the occasion of an exhibition presented in reduced form at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In lieu of an English-language catalogue in print format, the Metropolitan produced a CD-ROM titled The Dawn of Photography: French Daguerreotypes, 1839-1855 (Yale University Press, 2003) with entries for 175 works, and English translations of the French texts (see Worldwide 29096).
