JEAN PIERRE RAYNAUD. Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris, 1998. Published in association with Reunion des musees nationaux, Paris. 184 pp. with 164 ills. (53 col., one foldout). 27 x 23 cm. ISBN 2908901609 In French.
Featuring fine reproductions of some 75 sculptures, installations and other works produced by well-known French artist Raynaud (b. 1939) from 1962 to 1998, this catalogue reviews in detail a singular oeuvre reflecting the influence of Minimalism and the Pop-related aesthetics of the Nouveau Realisme movement, the selection ranging from red-and-white painted sculptural and architectonic displays incorporating such objects as flower pots, fire buckets, coffins and machine-like assemblages to wall-mounted grid compositions of white ceramic tiles. An extensive biographical chronology supplements three critical essays discussing Raynaud's "psycho-objects" of the 1960s, the significance of death as an underlying theme in his work, and the evolution of his 20-year project Maison, a bunker-like structure created both as the artist's residence and as a work of art in its own right.
