Was $77.50; save 25%! Illuminating the history and artistic agenda of Valori Plastici, an influential art journal published in Rome from 1918 to 1922, this catalogue features excellent reproductions of more than 100 paintings, drawings and sculptures produced in the 1910s and 20s by De Chirico, Carra, Morandi, Martini, Soffici, Severini, Sironi, Derain, Grosz, Leger and 14 other predominantly Italian artists whose landscapes, portraits, figure studies and still lifes reflect the naturalistic and classical aesthetic values promoted in the publication. Eleven essays include discussions of the artistic milieu in Rome during the period, the simultaneously avant-garde and conservative views of Valori Plastici publisher Mario Broglio, the journal's role in the post-World War I dialogue between Italian and German artists, and the relationship of its program to the Milan-based Novecento movement.
