Providing a detailed examination of the oeuvre of celebrated Swedish artist Carl Larsson (1858-1919) that emphasizes his pioneering contributions to the development of modern Swedish domestic design, this catalogue features reproductions of more than 100 watercolors, drawings, oil paintings and prints chiefly depicting scenes of family life at the artist's famous Sundborn home along with numerous historical and recent photographs of the house, a rustic structure whose eclectic decorative motifs reflect the influence of Swedish folk art traditions and such international currents as Art Nouveau, Japonisme and the English Arts and Crafts aesthetic. Ten substantial essays include discussions of Larsson's life and career, the interior design of his Sundborn house, the mass publication, dissemination and influence of his domestic illustrations and the artistic achievements of his wife, textile designer Karin Larsson (1859-1928).
