REBECCA HORN: THE GLANCE OF INFINITY. Carsten Ahrens et al. Kestner-Gesellschaft, Hannover, 1997. Published in association with Scalo Verlag, Zurich. Distributed in the U.S.A. by D.A.P./Distributed Art Publishers, New York. 392 pp. with 231 ills. (197 col.). 31 x 25 cm. ISBN 3931141667 In English.
Providing an excellent pictorial overview of Horn's individualistic oeuvre, this catalogue illustrates more than 100 sculptures, installations, performance pieces, films and drawings produced by the well-known German artist (b. 1944) from 1968 to 1997, the works ranging from ritualistic actions performed using exaggerated prosthetic extensions of the artist's body to motorized sculptural objects and installations variously combining elegant mechanical devices with ladders, violins, knives and such natural materials as water, feathers and rocks. An interview with Horn and numerous poems and other brief texts by the artist augment seven essays discussing formal aspects of her work and examining the existential and gender-related concerns underlying her explorations of the boundaries of human communication.
