Surveying Felixmuller's formative years in his native city of Dresden through a presentation of 78 canvases produced by the noted German painter (1897-1977) from 1913 to 1934, this catalogue highlights portraits, landscapes, urban views, domestic interiors and studies of industrial workers reflecting the artist's transition from a politically engaged mode of Cubo-Expressionism to a distinctive naturalistic style. Fine reproductions of the exhibited paintings are accompanied by a detailed biographical chronology and four essays discussing Felixmuller's artistic development and his early reception among German critics and patrons.
