ANTONIO FRANCESCO PERUZZINI. Mole Vanvitelliana, Ancona, 1997. Organized by Comune di Ancona, Assessorato ai Beni e alle Attivita Culturali et al. Published by Electa, Milan. 200 pp. with 127 ills. (69 col.). 28 x 25 cm. LC 98-103131 ISBN 8843561561 In Italian.
Surveying the oeuvre of a lesser-known Italian painter who frequently collaborated with such prominent figures as Alessandro Magnasco and Sebastiano Ricci, this catalogue presents excellent reproductions and individual discussions of more than 40 paintings attributed wholly or in part to Peruzzini (1643/46-1724) as well as of some 25 canvases by contemporaries of the artist, the selection consisting largely of melodramatic, often storm-tossed landscapes and coastal views incorporating religious tableaux or secular genre scenes. Six essays discuss Peruzzini's career and influences, assess the artistic achievements of his father, Domenico, and his brothers Giovanni and Paolo, and examine Venetian landscape traditions of the Baroque and Rococo.
