OP CHRISTOPHER WILLIAMS, 97 -- FOR EXAMPLE: DIE WELT IST SCHON (FINAL DRAFT). Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, 1997. Organized in association with Kunsthalle, Basel. 120 pp. with 67 ills. (16 col.). 26 x 22 cm. LC 97-224160 ISBN 9069181797 In English.
Highlighting a recent series of works in which American photographer Williams (b. 1956) explores the complex principles of objective photography embodied in images produced by German modernist Albert Renger-Patzsch (1897-1966) for his 1928 book Die Welt ist schon, this catalogue presents illustrations of 60 photographs by Williams along with two critical essays illuminating the conceptual framework of his oeuvre and the subtle reworking of photographic traditions reflected in the featured works, which include close-up studies of insect specimens and plants, views of a Senegalese high-rise building and a Swiss dam, and portraits of young Japanese women.
