Focusing on Cantarini's activities in Pesaro and his links to 16th- and 17th-century painting traditions in the Marches, this catalogue features eight scholarly essays, good reproductions and often lengthy individual analyses of sixteen canvases and more than 150 drawings by the noted Italian painter (1612-1648), and detailed documentation of thirteen tableaux by such precursors and contemporaries of the artist as Federico Barocci, Guido Cagnacci, Palma il Giovane, Ludovico Carracci and Guido Reni, Cantarini's teacher.
