Was $75.00; save 33%! Accompanying the first thorough retrospective devoted to influential Quebec painter Leduc (1864-1955), a key figure in turn-of-the-century Canadian art whose landscapes, religious tableaux, portraits and still lifes bear affinities to both Symbolist and modernist aesthetics, this catalogue presents fine reproductions of some 90 oils dating from 1887 to 1950 while also documenting more than 150 drawings that include many preparatory studies for the artist's well-known ecclesiastical murals. Detailed scholarly examinations of the works are supplemented by three essays discussing the philosophical and spiritual concerns informing Leduc's art, his role as a forerunner of modernism in Quebec and the varied aesthetic and political issues affecting the reception of his oeuvre by early 20th-century French Canadian critics.
