Surveys six decades of work by renowned Italian painter Vedova (b. 1919), this catalogue illustrates nearly 100 paintings, drawings and mixed-media pieces dating from 1936 to 1995 that include early Cubist-inspired images and expressionistic renderings of human figures and architectural subjects as well as many of the violently gestural abstractions that have dominated the artist's output since the early postwar period. An introductory discussion of the aesthetic and philosophical values informing Vedova's oeuvre is followed by an anthology of reprinted critical texts, a selection of the artist's writings and a detailed chronology of his career.
