Thoroughly reviewing the oeuvre of noted Spanish Surrealist Dominguez (1906-1957), this catalogue includes four critical essays, a detailed biographical chronology tracing the painter's links to Breton, Eluard and other Paris-based artists during the 1930s and 40s, and fine reproductions of more than 140 paintings and some 25 sculptures and works on paper spanning his career, the selection encompassing Dali-inspired dreamscapes, figure studies and still lifes reflecting the influence of Picasso, de Chirico and Lam, and evocative landscape-like images produced by Domiguez using the automatist "decalcomanie" technique he developed in the mid-1930s.
