Highlighting an array of chiefly figurative works from a distinguished collection of European modernist art that was assembled by Dutch industrialist Pierre Alexandre Regnault (1868-1954) and is now largely housed in the Stedelijk Museum, this catalogue features fine reproductions and individual discussions of 55 paintings, 15 works on paper and two sculptures dating from 1911 to 1951, including pieces by Chagall, Rouault, Van den Berghe, Picasso, Ensor, Severini, De Chirico, Soutine, Van Dongen, Dufy, Leger, Zadkine and 16 other artists. Includes an extensive text tracing Regnault's life, his important role as a collector and his close association with the Museum as well as brief essays profiling the featured artists and their relationships with the collector.
