Surveys more than 25 installations created over the past two decades by well-known American artist Mullican (b. 1951), many of the pieces incorporating such diverse elements as banners emblazoned with symbolic pictographs, architectonic structures, abstract reliefs resembling models of urban environments, collections of bones and other found objects, and wall displays of enigmatic signs and diagrams. Two essays discussing the perceptual and cultural themes explored in Mullican's complex personal cosmology accompany pictorial documentation of the featured works and illustrations of some 250 pages from the artist's wide-ranging "library" of images and texts culled from books and periodicals.
