Provides a thorough and well-illustrated review of the individualistic body of works created from 1958 to 1995 by French artist Ben Vautier (b. 1935), a prominent figure in the Fluxus movement during the 1960s and 70s whose oeuvre encompasses performance pieces, crudely assembled installations of found materials, paintings of cartoon-like figures, and a broad array of text-based compositions featuring often humorously ambiguous, epigrammatic observations on art and life. Includes five critical essays, an interview with Vautier and numerous texts by the artist, among them an autobiographical chronology, commentaries on the illustrated works and discussions of his iconoclastic theories of art.
