WORLDS ENVISIONED: ALIGHIERO E BOETTI, FREDERIC BRULY BOUABRE. Lynne Cooke et al. Dia Center for the Arts, New York, 1994. Published 1995. 104 pp. with 73 ills. (57 col.). 19 x 25 cm. LC 94-62122 ISBN 0944521320 In English.
Documenting a joint exhibition of works produced from the late 1960s to the 1990s by two artists who explore the visual dimensions of language from highly divergent cultural perspectives, this catalogue illustrates complex embroideries and other pieces by Italian conceptual artist Boetti (1940-1994) along with small-scale serial drawings on cardboard by Bruly Bouabre (b. ca. 1923), an Ivory Coast artist whose figurative and abstract compositions often constitute elements in the pictographic alphabet he has created of his native language. A brief text by Boetti and an interview with Bruly Bouabre supplement 16 diverse essays discussing the cultural, spiritual and aesthetic concerns embodied in the artists' oeuvres.
