Documenting the first major exhibition devoted to the distinctive oeuvre of Italian artist Strozzi, the most important Genoese painter of the 17th century, this substantial catalogue provides excellent reproductions and extensive individual analyses of 87 paintings and 41 drawings spanning his career in Genoa and Venice, the selection encompassing richly colored portraits, allegorical compositions, genre studies and numerous treatments of religious subjects. Four scholarly essays tracing Strozzi's life and stylistic development are augmented by eight additional texts that include discussions of his draughtsmanship, his religious iconography and the critical reception of his work.
