PASCIN, 1885-1930. Musee-Galerie de la Seita, Paris, 1994. Organized in association with Israel Museum, Jerusalem et al. 168 pp. with 112 ills. (99 col.). 29 x 24 cm. ISBN 2906524581 Bilingual in French and English.
Surveying the expressive figurative oeuvre of Bulgarian-born artist Jules Pascin, a celebrated figure in the bohemian art circles of Montparnasse and Montmartre in the 1910s and 20s, this catalogue features fine reproductions of 17 paintings and 76 drawings and watercolors (many from the holdings of the Israel Museum) that include sensuous nude studies, pensive portraits, depictions of cafe life and bacchanalian revelry, and sketches of street scenes in Cuba and Tunisia. A concise summary of Pascin's career in Germany, France and the United States and a critical assessment of his distinctive draughtsmanship are augmented by a selection of personal reminiscences by friends and associates of the artist.
