Celebrating the achievements of an influential follower of Piero della Francesca renowned for his illusionistic style and innovative handling of perspective, the first section of this substantial catalogue features a lengthy critical overview of the career and once neglected oeuvre of Melozzo da Forli (1438-1494) along with excellent pictorial documentation of frescoes and panel paintings (many surviving only in fragments or photographs) that include works created by the artist for Santa Casa in Loreto, the Vatican and the Quirinale in Rome. The second section of the catalogue presents eleven essays examining social, political, architectural and artistic developments in Forli during the time of Melozzo as well as photographs, drawings and individual discussions of 44 extant churches, convents, palaces and other structures from the period.
