Documenting a reduced version of the 1994 Poussin exhibition mounted in Paris (see Worldwide 24810), this scholarly catalogue provides excellent full-page reproductions and detailed analyses of 91 canvases by the important French artist, among them numerous interpretations of religious, mythological and historical subjects as well as examples of the painter's late landscape compositions. An essay chronicling Poussin's life in France and Rome and a substantial discussion of the influence of his personal concerns on his choice of themes are supplemented by six texts profiling the stages of his career and examining his renowned series of tableaux depicting the Seven Sacraments and the Four Seasons.
