Surveying provocative works produced over the past four decades by two well-known American artists who have focused throughout their careers on issues of political and sexual oppression, this catalogue presents excellent color reproductions of 20 paintings by Golub (b. 1922) and of 26 works on paper by Spero (b. 1926), the selection including narrative canvases depicting scenes of military and civil violence and images exploring the victimization of women. Includes a brief critical overview of the artists' careers and a wide-ranging interview in which the couple discusses the socially engaged themes central to their respective oeuvres. Well-preserved volume is in original wrappers.
