Documenting in detail Miro's little-studied involvement with dance and the theater and its significance to the development of his artistic vision, this scholarly catalogue features eight essays chronicling his early exposure to the avant-garde stage in Barcelona and Paris, his work as a set and costume designer for Ballets Russes productions in 1926 and 1932, his creation of giant puppet figures for the 1978 spectacle Mori el Merma, and his conception of a surrealistic, alchemy-based dance piece in the mid-1930s that was revised in the 1960s and finally performed in 1981. Includes reproductions of scores of costume and set designs produced by Miro (1893-1983) for the featured projects, illustrations of theater-related paintings, posters and other works by the artist, and numerous photographs of performances and individual dancers.
