Thoroughly surveying the individualistic oeuvre of a renowned figure in 17th-century French art, this substantial catalogue documents with excellent reproductions and critical analyses 40 sculptures and reliefs, 63 paintings and drawings, and 14 architectural designs by Puget; 33 works by Filippo Parodi and other Baroque painters and sculptors the artist encountered during his long sojourn in Genoa in the 1660s; and a small selection of sculptures by Christophe Veyrier, Puget's chief associate over the course of his career in Marseille. Four scholarly essays chronicling Puget's activities as a painter, sculptor, draughtsman and architect from his training in Rome under Pietro da Cortona through his late commissions at the court of Louis XIV are accompanied by discussions of his links to Genoese artists of the period, his critical fortunes, and the materials and techniques used in his atelier.
