Surveys the celebrated oeuvre of Hungarian-born French photographer Brassai (1899-1984) through a presentation of 130 works dating mainly from the 1930s, among them many evocative depictions of Parisian street scenes and night life as well as portraits of artists, Surrealist-influenced images of natural forms, and studies of graffiti-scarred walls. Excellent reproductions of the exhibited photographs are accompanied by five texts in which Brassai comments on his thematic and technical concerns and four critical essays that include discussions of the artist's graffiti images and the publication of his works in the Surrealist periodical Minotaure.
