Featuring many seldom-exhibited works drawn from the collection of Bourdelle's daughter, this catalogue documents 67 bronze sculptures and some 70 drawings by the influential French artist, including numerous renderings of mythological figures and studies for the sculptor's well-known reliefs and frescoes at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees that illustrate his dynamic style and his links to Rodin. An overview of Bourdelle's career and a discussion of his critical reception in Italy are augmented by individual commentaries on many of the exhibited pieces.
