SIAH ARMAJANI: CONTRIBUTIONS ANARCHISTES, 1962-1994/ANARCHISTICS CONTRIBUTIONS, 1962-1994. Villa Arson, Centre national d'art contemporain, Nice, 1994. 166 pp. with 190 ills. (185 col.). 27 x 22 cm. ISBN 2905075678 Bilingual in French and English (complete entries and biographical notes in French only).
Surveying the career of a noted Iranian-born American artist whose work reflects an innovative synthesis of architecture and public sculpture, this catalogue presents photographs and models of nearly 150 realized and proposed projects designed by Armajani (b. 1939) from 1968 to 1994, including a series of sculptural objects comprising a "dictionary" of basic architectural elements, functional pedestrian bridges and covered walkways, installations representing self-contained "reading rooms," and cage-like gazebo structures for parks. A selection of Armajani's writings and three reprinted critical texts augment an essay reviewing the artistic and social ideals that have shaped the progression of his oeuvre.
