ERIK DIETMAN. Centre Georges Pompidou, Musee national d'art moderne/Centre de creation industrielle, Paris, 1994. Contemporains: Monographies. 328 pp. with 189 ills. (45 col.). 21 x 17 cm. LC 95-103020 ISBN 2858507848 In French; four essays also in English.
Surveying the career of a Paris-based Swedish artist who has combined in his varied oeuvre the principles and techniques of Dada, Fluxus and Conceptual art, this catalogue presents more than 130 diverse sculptural works produced by Dietman (b. 1937) from 1957 to 1994, ranging from assemblages, collages and installations composed of found materials to large-scale figurative and abstract pieces in bronze or marble. A detailed biographical chronology and a lengthy interview with Dietman complement four essays that examine the artist's individualistic concerns, noting the prevalence of often ironic art historical and cultural references in his work.
