An extensive study of the career of major Italian architect Juvarra that focuses on his late work in Spain, this massive catalogue presents hundreds of photographs and drawings documenting the elegant late Baroque palaces and churches he designed in the Turin region during his years at the Savoy court as well as his ambitious, only partially realized plans for the Royal Palace in Madrid. Detailed commentaries on the featured projects augment thirteen scholarly essays highlighting many facets of Juvarra's oeuvre, including examinations of his status in European courts of the 18th century and his involvement in the redesign of Turin's urban center along with numerous discussions of his achievements and influence in Spain.
