In addition to detailed commentaries on individual works and projects (among them the frescoes the artist produced in Rome and Munich), the catalogue presents a lengthy biographical chronology, a text by Schnorr discussing his well-known Bible illustrations, and five essays examining his development as a painter, his close ties to the Nazarenes and his relationship to the art movements of his time.
