The first major study of the multifaceted oeuvre of noted German designer Adler (1878-ca. 1942), this scholarly volume encompasses a catalogue raisonne of more than 400 objects reflecting the artist's links to decorative art movements in early 20th-century Munich and Vienna, including metalwork, furniture, textiles, graphic designs, jewelry, architectural ornaments, ceramics and other diverse pieces. Illustrations of the featured works are accompanied by 22 texts that include discussions of Adler's career as an artist and teacher in Nuremberg and Hamburg and individual critical analyses of his achievements in each of the media represented.
