A substantial review of the career of a noted Swiss-born American artist closely associated with Piet Mondrian and Neo-Plasticism, this catalogue presents reproductions of 46 paintings and 64 drawings produced by Glarner (1899-1972) principally during the 1940s and 50s, many of the works featuring spatially ambiguous configurations of rectangular shapes in primary colors and varied shades of gray. Includes a text by Glarner outlining his theory of "Relational Painting" and three critical essays discussing the artist's involvement in abstract movements in Paris and New York during the 1930s, his use of circular canvases, and the significance of drawing in his oeuvre.
