PIER PAOLO CALZOLARI. Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris, 1994. Organized in association with FAE Musee d'Art Contemporain, Pully/Lausanne. Published in association with Reunion des musees nationaux, Paris. 224 pp. with 215 ills. (73 col.). 27 x 23 cm. LC 95-213780 ISBN 2908901242 In French.
Documenting an exhibition of more than 90 works produced by Calzolari (b. 1943) from 1966 to 1994, this catalogue thoroughly reviews the achievements of an Italian artist whose oeuvre, strongly linked to the Arte Povera movement, includes neon text-sculptures, monochromatic paintings, performance-based pieces, and installations that variously combine textured sheets of lead and copper, organic materials and found objects. Reproductions of the featured works and photographs of additional installations by the artist are accompanied by two critical essays discussing the allegorical and theoretical concerns central to the progression of Calzolari's career.
