Praun (1548-1616), documenting 137 drawings by Baldung Grien, Cranach the Elder, Altdorfer, Parmigianino, Orsi, Primaticcio and many other German and Italian artists along with some 80 paintings, decorative objects, prints and books. Good reproductions and scholarly discussions of the featured pieces are prefaced by four essays that include an examination of the collecting activities of 16th-century Nuremberg aristocrats, a history of the Praun collection and an evaluation of its historical significance as an artistic and cultural resource.
