CORNELIS CORT: "CONSTICH PLAEDT-SNIJDER VAN HORNE IN HOLLANDT"/"ACCOMPLISHED PLATE-CUTTER FROM HOORN IN HOLLAND." Manfred Sellink. Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam, 1994. 232 pp. with 140 ills. 27 x 22 cm. LC 95-126614 ISBN 9069181215 Bilingual in Dutch and English.
Accompanying the first exhibition devoted to the work of Dutch engraver Cort (1533/36-1578), this catalogue thoroughly documents a representative selection of 60 prints drawn primarily from the Museum's major holdings of works by the artist, including religious and allegorical tableaux, mythological compositions, landscapes and portraits executed after designs by Titian, Frans Floris, Martin van Heemskerk, Federico and Taddeo Zuccaro and other painters. Clear reproductions and detailed stylistic and technical discussions of the exhibited prints are prefaced by a concise overview of Cort's work as an engraver for Hieronymus Cock's famed publishing house in Antwerp and his late career in Venice, Florence and Rome.
