Prefaced with two essays examining the portrayal of architectural subjects by early photographers and the development of photographic archives in France, this catalogue features good reproductions and substantial individual discussions of 200 works selected from one of the most important European collections of architectural photographs, including images produced by Le Gray, Baldus and Le Secq for the Mission Heliographique in 1851, views of Sardinia, Egypt, Athens and Jerusalem by Delessert and Bonfils, and studies of Parisian monuments by Marville and Atget.
