Thoroughly surveying the achievements of two internationally noted Czech glass artists, this catalogue showcases some 100 diverse works by Libensky (b. 1921) and Brychtova (b. 1924) that include etched and enameled vessels and opaque figural reliefs dating from the 1940s as well as dozens of often monumental abstract sculptural pieces and innovative architectural projects collaboratively designed by the couple since the mid-1950s. Excellent photographs of the featured works are supplemented by detailed biographical chronologies, a lengthy critical overview of the artists' independent and joint careers, and a discussion of their work in the context of postwar political and cultural developments in Czechoslovakia.
