This well-illustrated book documents a 1992 conference held in Alexandria, Virginia and a related exhibition mounted in Bologna, both organized to highlight new approaches to urban planning and architecture based on classical models and humanist ideals. Reprising three of the essays and more than 60 of the European projects presented in the exhibition catalogue A Vision of Europe (Worldwide 24254), the volume also includes four additional essays, nine papers delivered at the Virginia conference, and a survey of 50 diverse designs for buildings and communities in the United States created by such architects as Robert Stern, Scott Merrill, Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, Thomas Norman Rajkovich and Allan Greenberg.
