OP MEDARDO ROSSO. Luciano Caramel et al. Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, 1994. Organized and published by South Bank Centre, London. 84 pp. with 91 ills. (36 col.). 28 x 22 cm. LC 96-171403 ISBN 185332115X In English.
Surveying the influential oeuvre of celebrated Italian sculptor Rosso (1858-1928), this catalogue documents an exhibition of some 50 sculptures and 29 drawings produced by the artist from the 1880s to the 1920s, including expressively modeled heads and figures in bronze, plaster or wax that reflect in their subtle evocations of light and movement Rosso's exploration of Impressionist aesthetics. A critical text reviewing the artist's career in Milan and Paris and his pioneering contributions to the development of modern sculpture is augmented by a discussion of his draughtsmanship and an analysis of his sculptural technique.
