Distributed by MIT Press, Cambridge. 200 pp. with 163 ills. (108 col.). 21 x 25 cm. LC 93-31695 ISBN 026204143X In English.
Highlighting new forms of artistic expression being developed through the use of computer imaging systems and interactive technologies, this catalogue documents an array of recent multi-media installations by Gretchen Bender, Alan Rath, Michael Brodsky, Ken Feingold and twelve other predominantly American artists, many of the pieces merging graphics, text, video, sound and photography to form commentaries on political, social and psychological issues. Statements by the artists supplement five essays discussing the history and changing status of photographic images, the adaptation of computer programs for artistic purposes, and the far-reaching cultural implications of such emerging technologies as virtual reality and artificial intelligence.
