Highlighting a central motif in the visionary oeuvre of noted Argentine artist Alejandro Xul Solar (1887-1963), this catalogue documents an exhibition of more than 50 watercolors and drawings depicting fantastic structures and urban scenes that reflect the artist's exposure to Expressionist architecture and modernist art movements during his sojourn in Europe from 1912 to 1924 as well as his lifelong interest in metaphysical and linguistic systems. Illustrations of the featured works are accompanied by two essays discussing the mystical and utopian character of Xul Solar's work and his links to avant-garde trends in Argentina and Europe.
